ALMA Lab (Advanced Lab for Music Applications), C-485 HFAC, 801-422-8661
- 20 computer stations with MIDI keyboards and a variety of music software applications (including Finale and Sibelius music notation programs, ProTools, and other applications)
- Used as a piano lab for group piano classes and as a teaching space for music technology courses during the day
- Available to music students for open use whenever courses are not being held in the lab, as well as evenings, Fridays, and Saturdays in particular
Music Tech Lab, 2137 MB
The Music Tech Lab has 25 student stations with a Mac computer, MIDI keyboard, headphones, and a variety of music software applications including ProTools, LogicPro, Finale, and others. It is available during open hours (outside of scheduled class times) to music students who are taking or who have taken a Music Tech class and can be used to fulfill assignments and work on projects. Six of the stations also include audio interfaces.
Electronic Music Studio, (E-329 HFAC, 1065 MB)
- The lab is devoted to the creation of new compositions that extend and continue to explore the sound worlds introduced by classical electronic music.
- In addition to an analog synthesizer, the studio is equipped with eight-channel sound and a ProTools HD system, several high-end microphones, a digital mixing board, and a loaded Mac desktop computer equipped with the latest electronic music software: Max, Native Instrument’s Komplete package, Logic Pro, and a KYMA system, among others.
- The lab functions as a space where users create stand-alone compositions and soundtracks for various visual media, explore sound design, and work with multiple control/input tools including the ROLI Seaboard, the Komplete Kontrol and Maschine Jam of Native Instruments, the Linnstrument, and a Wacom Tablet.
Commercial Music Digital Recording Studios and MIDI Production Labs
The Commercial Music Digital Recording and MIDI Production Studios feature cutting edge technology that allow students to have real-world hands-on training with both large commercial recording consoles and smaller home-studio setups. The large studios are equipped with a 48 channel Neve Genesys, a 48 channel SSL Duality Fuse, and a wide variety of microphones and analog gear that facilitate high quality recordings and mixes for professional delivery, including stereo, 5.1 surround and full 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos integration. Students also have access to the latest software, providing a modern and effective workflow (including ProTools, LogicPro, and others) and a robust array of Virtual Instruments for MIDI sequencing in songwriting, composition, and modern music production. The studios in the Music Building feature fully adjustable acoustics, multiple isolation booths, and multi-room interconnectivity to scale the size of projects from small jam sessions with just a few players to large projects that incorporate over 100+ musicians in an orchestral context.
