Biography

From Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl, trumpeter and educator Randy Lee’s playing has been praised by the American Record Guide as "Handsome... estimable...", and the International Trumpet Journal as "...exceptional... demonstrates the full range of emotional intensity", his “stylistic vibrato, lyricism, ornamentation, commanding technique, and range add an exciting flair…”

Formerly the Associate Professor of trumpet at the University of Florida, he is a soloist, recording artist, collaborator, a member Naples Brass, and a founding member of the Brazilian guitar/voice & trumpet duo – Tremura & Lee. Recording for his latest solo album, Echoes of Zion with the UF Wind Symphony, is available on Mark Records as well as Naples Brass Christmas Vols. 1-3, Tremura & Lee’s album – The Art of Music, and Latin inspired solo album, La Trompeta Camaleónica. He can also be heard on Deutsche Grammophon, Centaur Records, and Tantara Records.

Randy has premiered and recorded new solo literature for the trumpet and presented guest artist recitals at various universities around the globe. He has performed with the American Chamber Winds, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Salt River Brass, Potsdam Brass Quintet, and with acts such as Johnny Mathis, Weird Al, Roy Orbison (Hologram), Cirque Musica, Irish Tenors, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Manheim Steamroller, and others. Dr. Lee holds degrees from BYU (BA) studying with David Brown, UCLA (MM) with Jens Lindemann, and Arizona State (DMA) with David Hickman. Other teachers include K. Newell Dayley, Nick Norton, Don Green, and Jay Posteraro. When not thinking about trumpet he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and attempting to surf.

Randy is a Yamaha Artist.
