Biography
Dr. Joseph “Joe” Palmer is a trumpeter, educator, composer, and arranger whose work spans musical genres. An accomplished jazz musician, Palmer has performed with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, Birch Creek Jazz Faculty Orchestra, Innovation Jazz Orchestra, South Florida Jazz Orchestra, Javier Nero Septet, and Mark Filsinger Chamber Jazz Band, among others. As a bandleader, he recently released his debut album of original compositions, Highs and Lows. His versatility in performance extends to church, salsa, musical theatre, and corporate settings.
After graduating from Brigham Young University in 2019, Palmer received a master's degree in jazz performance from the Eastman School of Music, where he served as a teaching assistant for a jazz theory course and the Eastman Jazz Lab Band. In 2026, he received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in jazz performance from the Frost School of Music, where he directed two jazz combos, taught two undergraduate jazz trumpet students, and substituted for aural skills classes, combo rehearsals, and group lessons. Palmer's experience also includes working with younger students at the Birch Creek Jazz II and Frost jazz camps, for five and two summers respectively, as well as in his private lesson studio for the past six years.
