Biography

Diane Soelberg retired as Director of Bands at Brigham Young University–Idaho in July 2023. She served as an Associate Dean in the College of Performing and Visual Arts from 2017 through 2023 and was the Chair of the Department of Music from 2013 through 2017. Throughout her tenure at BYUI, she was the Director of Bands, and conductor of the Symphony Band, and taught the oboe studio. Under her direction, the BYU-Idaho Symphony Bandperformed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. The band also performed at several conferences.

Miss Soelberg received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Utah. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy from Utah State University, and a Master of Music Education with an Emphasis in Conducting from Brigham Young University. Her teaching career includes 14 years of public-school teaching and 20 years at BYU-Idaho. She has received several teaching awards and was inducted into the Idaho Music Educators Hall of Fame in 2024.

Miss Soelberg has served on the board of the Utah Music Educators Association, was a staff member of the Utah Ambassadors of Music and is the former conductor of the American Fork Symphony. She has also appeared as a soloist with several orchestras. She served as the Northwest Division President of the College Band Directors National Association and is a member of several other professional organizations. She also plays oboe in the Orchestra at Temple Square and maintains a small oboe studio.
