Biography
Dennis Pratt earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from BYU in 1985, and earned his Master’s Degree in Music Education from BYU in 1988.
Dennis has taught band, jazz band, and some orchestra at Dixon Middle School in Provo from 1985 through 1997, earning outstanding festival ratings with all three groups throughout his tenure here with his 7th and 8th grade students.
In 1998 Dennis earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from BYU, and served in Provo City School District as an Assistant Principal for 6 years.
In 2003 Dennis was selected as the Principal at Edgemont Elementary School in Provo, and served there for 12 years. During his tenure there, Dennis led the school from a low performing school academically to one of the highest performing elementary schools in the state. He also led the school to the full implementation of a French Dual Language Immersion program, earning the recognition by the French Ministry of Education’s LabelFrancEducation (one of the top 17 French speaking schools in the world). In addition, he led the school in implementing a full time comprehensive music program and an integrated visual arts program, which together earned the distinction as the top fine arts program in the state with the Sorensen Legacy Award for Exemplary Arts Program in 2013.
Dennis has worked on his Educational Doctorate degree in educational leadership and was a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
After Dennis left his work with Provo City School District, he and his wife started, owned, and fully operated a private music school called Prattland Music Adventures in Lehi Utah for 6 years. They employed more than 25 music teachers at a time who worked with them to teach private and small group music lessons and classes. Prattland was teaching more than 350 weekly students when the Pratts sold this business in 2022.
In addition, Dennis taught Jazz Band at Fort Herriman Middle School, and taught Elementary School Music at Shelley Elementary School, and at East Midvale & Sandy Elementary Schools.
