Encore Lecture Series: Robert Dunn

Rob Dunn, Professor of Music Education, came to BYU in 2008. He oversees the Graduate Music Education Program and specializes in music for the general student and music listening.

After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from BYU, Rob taught choral and general music in the public schools for 11 years. He received his doctorate from Northwestern University, where he was honored as a Northwestern Fellow, before teaching at Western Michigan University. Just prior to coming to BYU, he taught at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH) for 14 years, where he served as Director of Music Education, founded and directed the Case Concert Choir, and was associate director of the University Circle Choral at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Rob’s areas of interest include lifelong music learning for children and adults, music listening, listening maps, and creative thinking. He received the Outstanding Dissertation in Music Education Award from the Council for Research in Music Education, has many articles published as chapters in books as well as in national and international journals, and has presented at many national and international venues.

He is the author of educational materials for the Cleveland Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has served on several editorial boards, including College Music Society and Contributions to Music Education, and currently serves for Music Education Research International.
