The School of Music offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree for students who desire rigorous music training infused with studies in the liberal arts. Students who pursue this degree will study on the instrument or voice type they audition on and will participate in ensembles and chamber groups. In addition to coursework in music theory and music history, students will have the opportunity to enroll in a variety of music courses of their own choice.
Study in the Bachelor of Arts also provides ample opportunity to take coursework from other colleges and departments throughout the university that can result in the completion of a minor. This degree is ideal for students wanting a diverse and broad music degree. BA graduates can qualify for post baccalaureate or graduate musical studies elsewhere in fields such as arts management, ethnomusicology, music therapy, as well as the School of Music’s MA in musicology program. This degree can also provide excellent preparation for law school, medical school, and other graduate professional programs.
The university undergraduate catalog lists the complete degree requirements, including the suggested plan by which to achieve them, called the Major Academic Plan (MAP).
Students are admitted to the BA following the usual School of Music application process.
