Updated for Fall 2023
Instructions on how to sign up for auditions for all the large ensembles will be posted outside the clarinet studio door (4251 Music Building) at least a week before the start of the semester. Auditions will take place on the first two days of the semester. The auditions will last about five minutes. Please prepare two contrasting pieces (from the solo clarinet repertoire, orchestral excerpts, chamber music, etc., pretty much anything) that demonstrate skill. One should be fast and demonstrate finger speed/dexterity and tonguing ability; the other should be slow and pretty to demonstrate musicality. You should also prepare a scale of your choice (tongued one direction and slurred the other). There will also be a short sight-reading.
You should not register for any of the auditioned groups until after the audition results have been announced. Contact Dr. Hinckley (clarinet@byu.edu) for more information regarding auditions.
