CONCERT BAND AUDITIONS

Auditions for the BYU Concert Bands are administered by the studio professors for each instrument during the first week of fall and winter semesters. Each professor’s audition materials vary from year to year. Most auditions consist of scales, sight-reading, and prepared pieces.     10am-12pm in Dr. Nichols' Office, E-451

    Bring two contrasting excerpts from the standard saxophone repertoire - no more than 3 minutes total. Be prepared to sight read and play scales.

    Sign-up sheet will be posted on Dr. Nichols' door by the first day of classes.

    Oboe positions available in the concert bands are filled by oboe music majors and only in rare situations would a position be available to a non-major. However, University Orchestra (and for winter semester, Bands) is open to non-music majors.

    Mozart: Horn Concerto No. 3, Movement 1: Measures 28-69

    Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5, Movement 1: 1st horn, 3rd measure of 17 to 2nd measure of 21.

    Bach: Mass in B Minor, Horn solo from Quoniam: Beginning to measure 15. Note, this is Horn in D. You must transpose.

    Dvorak: Symphony No. 8, Movement 1: 1st horn, beginning to 10 measures before A
