The Young Ambassador show band features ten musicians. All must read, and several should be doublers. The music covers a variety of styles. We feature two trumpets, one trombone (with bass and tenor trombone range); One tenor saxaphone with alto sax, flute, clarinet doubles; two keyboards: one playing mostly piano sounds, and the other programmed for B3 organ effects, synth pads, and orchestral parts. Our guitar chair requires both lead electric and acoustic capabilities, and our bass chair is writen for bass guitar with some use of an Ashbury bass (which can be learned as we rehearse). The drummer plays Roland V-drums, and our second percussionist plays a Roland Handsonic Model 15. We like musicians who can read and improvise, and preference is also given for unusual doubles such as trumpet-guitar or percussion-guitar, or any of the rhythm section (exepth the drummer) doubeling on trumpet. Our first trumpet chair is demanding, similar to the range and style requirements of the high trumpet chair in a jazz-flavored big band. Horn players provide their own instruments; all other instruments are provided.
Our musicians should also be comfortable with and personally committed to the overall values of the Young Ambassador program, including the spiritual and outreach dimensions of the group
Auditions are held in conjunction with performer auditions, and continue until the band is filled. For more information on audition appointments, call Ron Simpson at (801) 422-2563 during or before the first week of April.
