At the School of Music there are a collection of active small ensembles which are specialized and unique in their offerings. Some are faculty ensembles which represent their respective area and the School of Music in general as they perform locally and on tour. The small ensembles which are student based offer additional ensemble opportunities which further the total musical experience available to students at BYU.

Under the direction of Mark Geslison, the BYU Folk Music Ensemble celebrates the rich variety and heritage of folk music. With an emphasis in American folk music, the program actually consists of several small ensembles, some of which assist the BYU International Folk Dancers both in their local performances, and on their international tours.
