Don L. Peterson was recently appointed as Director of Bands at Brigham Young University and conductor of the Wind Symphony. During his previous twenty-two years at BYU, he served as associate director of bands, professor of music education, and director of the marching band.
He received both his B.M. and M.M. degrees in music education from Brigham Young University, followed by the D.M.A. degree in instrumental music/conducting from Arizona State University. During his nine years as director at American Fork High School, the concert, marching, and jazz bands were recipients of numerous awards and recognitions.
His publications include articles in both Bandworld magazine and Band Director's Guide. He has also been involved in the research of Russian band music. In 2005, he published an interactive DVD for the study of “Instrumental Rehearsal Techniques”—designed to aid in the development of both prospective music educators and younger professionals. Mr. Peterson also maintains a very active schedule as adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor throughout the U.S.—activities that have taken him to twenty states and fourteen countries.
