The Brigham Young University 2016-2017 BRAVO! Professional Performing Arts Series presents Matt Haimovitz: A Moveable Feast on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.
Haimovitz will showcase Bach’s Suites for Unaccompanied Cello (1717-1723), which are some of the most moving and spiritual compositions for a solo instrument in history. This performance will take on new life in a program that offers a brilliant musical variation on the concept of A Moveable Feast. Haimovitz pairs each of Bach’s beloved works with newly commissioned suites by Philip Glass, Du Yun, Vijay Iyer and others.
“Matt Haimovitz is one of the most exciting cellists active today. His commitment to classical works as well as new music and education make him an ideal fit for a visit to BYU for the BRAVO! series,” said Jeff Martin, presenter of the BRAVO! series. “We are really looking forward to hosting him here for a couple of days.”
In addition to his scheduled recital on Oct. 6, Haimovitz will work with students in the School of Music and will also present a series of brief ‘pop up’ concerts in various locations around campus.
