All students wishing to enter the Composition program must complete an online application and audition, in addition to submitting a portfolio to the Composition faculty for review.


Complete the online application. List “Music Composition” as your intended major. List your instrument in the instrument field. Once you complete AND submit the application, sign up for a time to audition on your chosen instrument OR mail a recorded audition.


All students wishing to major within the School of Music must complete an audition. You must follow the audition requirements for your chosen instrument listed online


You must submit a portfolio of three works you have written; works that you consider your best compositions so far. These will circulate among the composition faculty. If the portfolio shows promise and your audition, if not competitive, still meets minimum standards for admission, the composition faculty’s positive recommendation could help enable you to be admitted to the School of Music.
